Two months after being hospitalized for various health problems, Harvey Weinstein was admitted to the hospital for emergency cardiac treatment.

The 72-year-old movie mogul, who is currently awaiting a retrial on sexual assault charges, was taken to Bellevue Hospital on Monday for emergency heart surgery after experiencing chest pains, Weinstein’s representatives confirmed to ABC News in a statement.

“Mr. Weinstein was admitted to Bellevue Hospital last night for a variety of ailments,” Craig Rothfeld and Juda Engelmayer told ABC. “We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today, but cannot comment further.”

Weinstein’s lawyer Arthur Aidala also confirmed the procedure to BBC News. USA TODAY has reached out to Weinstein’s representative for comment.

Harvey Weinstein: Film mogul falls ill with COVID-19 and double pneumonia after hospitalization

The surgery came after Weinstein was hospitalized in July for a “myriad of health issues,” including a positive Covid-19 test and double pneumonia.

He was admitted to the prison ward of Bellevue Hospital in New York City, where he was treated for “the illnesses from which he still suffers daily, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis (and) fluid accumulation in his heart and lungs.”

“As we have previously detailed, Mr. Weinstein suffers from a variety of serious health issues that require ongoing treatment,” Rothfeld and Engelmayer concluded Monday. “We are grateful to the leadership team at the New York City Department of Correction and Rikers Island for moving him to Bellevue Hospital so quickly.”
