Harvey Weinstein was hospitalized again and underwent heart surgery.

The disgraced media mogul, 72, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital in New York on Sunday evening, September 8. He underwent emergency surgery the next day, The Hollywood Reporter.

Representative Craig Rothfeld And Juda Engelmayer In a statement, Weinstein was “transported” to the hospital from Rikers Island, where he is currently being held, “due to various health issues.” No further information on Weinstein’s health or current condition was provided.

“We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today, but cannot comment further,” Rothfield and Engelmayer said in a statement to THR“As we have previously detailed, Mr. Weinstein suffers from a variety of serious health issues that require ongoing treatment. We are grateful to the leadership team at the New York City Department of Correction and Rikers Island for transporting him to Bellevue Hospital so quickly.”

Weinstein was admitted to Bellevue earlier this summer after contracting COVID-19 and pneumonia in July. Rothfeld told news outlets at the time that Weinstein was hospitalized for “illnesses that continue to plague him on a daily basis, including diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid buildup in his heart and lungs, and various other illnesses.”

Rothfeld also announced that his client also “tested positive for COVID and suffered bilateral pneumonia.”

Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape in 2020. However, the New York State Court of Appeals overturned the conviction in April, saying the original trial judge had prejudiced Weinstein by making improper decisions, including allowing women who were not part of the case to testify about the allegations.

“We conclude that the court erroneously admitted testimony about uncharged, alleged prior sexual conduct with persons other than the plaintiffs in the underlying crimes,” the court’s decision states, according to Related Press“The remedy for these egregious errors is a new process.”

Weinstein is currently being held on Rikers Island while he awaits a retrial in Manhattan Criminal Court in November. Although the New York conviction was overturned, Weinstein remains incarcerated in Los Angeles on other rape charges. He was convicted of those crimes in 2022 and sentenced to 16 years in prison. (He was acquitted of a Los Angeles charge involving one of the women who testified in New York.)

His court date was scheduled for Thursday, September 12, in New York.
