The Catwoman The film recently turned 20 years old and its star, Halle Berryhas celebrated the anniversary of the critically panned superhero film. In fact, she has said she’s even open to reprising the role and making another movie, but this time she would also like to direct the film from behind the camera.
The live-action films from DC and Warner Bros. Catwoman The film was released in 2004, when comic book adaptations were becoming popular again. Halle Berry played Patience Phillips, a different version of Catwoman than in the comics. The film revolved around an evil skin care company that tricks women into using a product that could kill them. It also featured the strangest basketball scene in Hollywood history. Catwoman was a critical flop and a box office flop (but still more successful than Borderland), but Berry is still a fan of the film and the character.
As noted by diversitywhile on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the actress was asked about her feelings Catwoman as the box office flop turns 20 years old.
“I loved the movie. It was panned. The critics said it was crap. And that’s not so bad,” joked Berry.
She then explained that over the past few years, people have started sharing clips of the film online and making positive comments about the problematic comic strip.
“I’m glad that the kids have found it on the Internet and love it,” Berry said. “It’s very satisfying. Because now they’re saying it’s cool and what the hell was everyone’s problem with it? I’m such a brat now!”
Fallon then asked Berry if she would be willing to return to the role and take on a new Catwoman Film.
“Maybe…if I could direct. Maybe,” Berry said.
Halle Berry wanted to direct Catwoman 2 since 2021
This is in line with previous comments made by the actress about Catwoman and the possibility of her doing another one. In 2021, while promoting her Netflix film Squeezed, She mentioned that she would like to direct a possible superhero sequel film.
“I would like to direct Catwoman,” Berry explained in 2021.
“If I can get a handle on this now, with the knowledge I have after this experience (on ‘Squeezed‘) and imagine this world the way I imagined this story.’Squeezed‘ was written for a white, 25-year-old Irish, Catholic girl, and I was allowed to reimagine it. I wish I could go back and reimagine it Catwoman and do it again. I’ll do it again now that I know what I know.”
Berry added that in her version of Catwoman, The character would save the world “like most male superheroes do.” She wouldn’t be the iconic DC character who only “saves women from” an evil cosmetics company.
“I would raise the stakes significantly and, in my opinion, involve both men and women more,” Berry said.
In the meantime Catwoman Star also recently said that she is ready to reprise her role as X-Men Member Storm in this year’s super blockbuster Deadpool and Wolverine. But Star Ryan Reynolds never called her and asked.
