Gustave “Gus” Scheerbaum Jr. of Pleasant Valley, Springfield Township passed away on August 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter and love. Born in Philadelphia on September 23, 1939 to Margaret and Gustave Scheerbaum, Gus grew up surrounded by family and community, values ​​that stayed with him throughout his life.

He was fortunate to find great love later in life and was a devoted husband to Nancy (Hottle) for the last nine years. Gus’ life was enriched by his work and the many people he touched along the way. He was a restaurant manager for 50 years, a career that showcased his natural hospitality and gregarious nature. He was best known for his work at Trainer’s Restaurant in Quakertown and the Country Club Restaurant on Cottman Avenue in Philadelphia. After a long and fulfilling career, Gus retired in 2010, leaving behind countless memories and friendships forged through his dedication to his craft.

Gus was also a proud and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley, where his faith and kindness were evident to all who knew him. His presence in the church community will be sorely missed. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 512, Quakertown, for 50 years and a long-time enthusiastic officer and member of the Springfield Township Historical Society.

Above all, Gus was a family man who was cherished by his loved ones. He is survived by his children: daughter Stacy (Brian Kress) of Bethlehem, son Gustave (Kevin Broad) of Philadelphia and daughter Joanna (David LaFaver) of Lower Macungie. He was also a loving stepfather to Debbie (Kenneth Keller) of Hellertown, Betsy (Jim Nilsen) of Pleasant Valley and Bonnie (Tim Wright) of Coudersport, PA. brother George (Patricia) of Lafayette Hill, sister Louise (William DiMascio) of Columbus, Ohio and brother Harry (Susan) of Collingswood, NJ. His brother Louis Scheerbaum predeceased him.

Gus’ legacy lives on in his grandchildren who brought him great joy: Arielle and Daxton, Emma, ​​Annie, Bennett and Leah, and Ken, Robert, Andrea and Nicholas, Danielle, Alexander and Elizabeth, Sarah, Peter, Alison and Isaac, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Gus was known for his warm hospitality, infectious laugh and larger-than-life personality. He will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends and his spirit will forever be a part of the many lives he touched.

All are invited to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Springfield Township, 2170 Route 212, Coopersburg, PA 18036, on Saturday, August 17th for viewing from 10 a.m. to noon and a service at noon. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
