Gundam creator reveals which movie actresses he is in love with

Yoshiyuki Tomino, the acclaimed screenwriter and director of Mobile Suit Gundam and the creator of the entire anime franchise, has revealed the film actresses he is in love with, adding of a French actress: “She turns me on so much!”




In a new interview with Full Frontal, Tomino discussed Gundamhis illustrious career, favorite films and the “scary” process of making the acclaimed science fiction film Ideawhere “I went so far as to look at the passions and psychology of people that I thought I would want to kill myself.” That was before he was asked about French films, which led him to reveal his deep love for actress Jeanne Moreau. “I haven’t seen much of Godard (French director),” he says, “I just love his first film, Breathless. I recognize Godard’s special talent, so it would be difficult to say that I was not influenced (by French cinema) … But the fact is that I don’t really like the overall direction of the Nouvelle Vague. But there is one thing that has definitely influenced me. That is the French actress Jeanne Moreau.”

(laughs).” Tomino put forward a theory as to why so many auteur films appeared in France, arguing that it was due to the country’s national spirit. France’s national spirit was also influenced by Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Chief animation director Terumi Nishii said that Japan’s animation industry, in comparison, lacks the courage to fight for real change. “We need a re-broadcast of The Rose of Versailles!” she demanded – and ironically, just two years later, the film is being released by Jujutsu Kaisen Studio MAPPA.


Another of Tomino’s favorites is the actor Jean-Paul Belmondo. He says: “Basically, both Jean Seberg and Jean-Paul Belmondo are incredibly sexy and have a wonderful way of talking. That makes me think that Godard might not have been completely wrong.” And that’s despite the fact that Tomino says he hates Godard for anything but BreathlessTomino made a similar comment about Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli, who, although he considered Miyazaki a step above him, stated: “This is only for The Boy and the Heron. I don’t really like Miyazaki’s other works anyway.”

Tomino is currently working on an anime titled Himiko Yamato after completion of the five Gundam Reconguista in G compilation films in 2022. They adapted the television series he wrote and directed Gundam35th anniversary. The original Mobile Suit Gundam The anime series, which was originally released in 1979 and includes 43 episodes (or 42 in North America), can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
