Guest disinvited from overseas wedding after spending $1,000 on flights

A woman said she was disinvited from her friend’s wedding after purchasing $1,000 worth of airline tickets. The Daily Mail.

In a post on the r/weddings subreddit, user Powerful-Lettuce-999 wrote that her friend from college recently invited her to a wedding in Asia. The woman was thrilled and bought her tickets, only to learn three days later that she was no longer invited. She shared the following message she received from the bride.

“Hey guys, I’m so sorry to tell you this, but I don’t have any accommodations left for you for the wedding. I’m really sorry, I hope you haven’t booked tickets yet,” the bride said to her and several other people who were no longer invited.

The woman replied to her friend and explained that she had already bought plane tickets.

“Hey, I booked my tickets and everything just three days ago because our agent knew and found something (I think the rest didn’t, no idea). I’m going to try to cancel but I don’t think I can. I understand that space was limited for family and stuff so it’s fine, don’t worry.”

Her friend said if she didn’t get the tickets back, she would think of something. The woman said she didn’t know how she would feel about attending the wedding now that she was no longer invited.

“If I go, my friends would feel terrible because I was allowed to go and they weren’t,” she explained.

She then asked the community for advice and asked what to do next.

“I was so happy about it and really pleased for her. I find this whole thing so disgusting,” she wrote.

When asked what she should do next, the responses were mixed, with many confused as to why she couldn’t book accommodation herself and still attend the wedding.

One person suggested that she should just fly to Asia and spend her time as she wanted.

“I would go and have my own vacation! Seriously! How did she think people would react? A lot of people book these things months in advance so they can afford it. Don’t lose money on cancellations… go, explore and have the time of your life! That sounds easy and more enticing than an awkward feeling wedding. No pun intended for the bride, but I’m not going to force myself into any situation,” user Mrb061180 responded.

Others insulted the bride and asked the woman to end the friendship.

Although Powerful-Lettuce-999 has updated her post several times, she has not said how she plans to handle the situation.
