Donors and board members of Plover Whiting Youth Athletics broke ground on an addition to the Woyak Sports Complex in Plover on August 5.

The McCain Foods Hall of Fame Pavilion is part of a $1.3 million renovation project of the baseball and softball fields on Cedar Drive.

Andrew Halberson, executive vice president of Ellis Construction, talked about what people can expect when the pavilion is finished.

“It will be a two-story building that is protected from inclement weather,” Halberson said. “More importantly, it will provide handicap accessible seating on two different fields for different sporting events on any given day.”

Construction includes renovations to the dugouts and batting cages. The project is expected to be completed in May 2025.

Malorie Paine, executive director of the Plover Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, spoke about the importance of youth sports in the village.

“No matter where you walk in the Plover area, you see a Plover Whiting Youth Athletics shirt, you see some type of PWYA apparel and I think that really shows how many youth are influenced by or through Plover Whiting Youth Athletics every year,” Paine said.

McCain secured the naming rights for the pavilion after his staff presented the PWYA with a check for $100,000.
