Grotesquerie stars Emmy winners Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B Vance and NFL star Travis Kelce in their acting debut

“I want them to leave with ‘I have to watch the next one’.”

That’s what actress Courtney B. Vance says about Ryan Murphy’s new drama series “Grotesquerie.”

“There’s so much,” Vance told ABC News.

“There’s so much food there that if we do our job right (the audience will say), ‘No, no, no, no, no, it can’t be over.’

“I want them to get away. It’s an event. It becomes an event.”

After two episodes of the 10-episode series Murphy co-created and wrote (Monster, American Horror Story, 9-1-1), Vance may have just gotten his wish.

Grotesquerie follows detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts) as she investigates a series of heinous crimes that have unsettled a small community.

Vance (The People v. OJ Simpson, Lovecraft Country) plays Marshall Tryon, Lois’ husband, who is in long-term hospital treatment and battling his own demons, but the lack of his charm and wisdom takes a toll on Lois while in a coma .

“We are a very modern, dysfunctional family,” Vance said.

Lois has a strained relationship with her daughter Merritt, played by Raven Goodwin (Single Black Female, Lola, Being Mary Jane).

“Merritt is complicated,” Goodwin told ABC News.

“She is very highly intelligent, so I wanted that to come across.

“But she’s also a 27-year-old kid, if that makes sense.

“So it was interesting to put those things on display – she was very childlike and also very intelligent – and try to tie those two together.”

“I love Merritt. I think I definitely found the nuance in her.”

While Vance wants the show to spark conversation and get people excited for the next episode, viewers need to have a strong stomach.

His co-star says the show is for those who “enjoy horror.”

“I think it will scare a few people,” Goodwin said.

Vance continues, “If we approach it from a character perspective, the horror is… entrenched.”

Lois feels that the crimes happening are incredibly personal, and unsure where to turn, she enlists the help of Sister Megan (Micaela Diamond), a nun and journalist who works for the Catholic Guardian writes.

The two are supposed to find themselves in a dark web that raises more questions than answers.

The cast has a lot of Emmys and other awards between them.

The series also stars British actress Lesley Manville (“The Crown”) as Nurse Redd and Nicholas Alexander Chavez (“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”) as Father Charlie Mayhew.

And Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who has a high-profile relationship with pop star Taylor Swift, has been cast in his acting debut.

He does not appear in the first two episodes and the extent of his role is unclear.

“Travis is great,” Goodwin said.

“Travis is awesome.

“He was such a sponge. He wanted to soak it all up and really came to work, for sure.”

Vance agrees.

“I mean, I couldn’t do that on the football field,” he said.

“If they told me to leave… no, we’d be done.”
