Grier Henchy wears his mother Brooke Shields’ 1997 wedding dress to high school graduation – Hollywood Life
Brooke Shields always opened her extensive wardrobe to her daughters, and when it was time for her high school graduation, Grier Hammond Henchy took the opportunity to bring a special dress from her mother, who once said: “Nothing is taboo.”
“Her graduation dress was my first wedding dress,” Shields said of the dress she wore at her wedding to the tennis star. Andre Agassi in 1997.
And although her marriage didn’t work out, Shields – who described her first husband as a “good guy” – said the dress felt like “a big full-circle moment” and “honoring something” for her, adding, “I think that’s healthy.”
Shields first wore the ivory satin corset dress when she married the tennis player, whom she divorced in 1999 before marrying Grier’s father. Chris Henchyin 2001 – but Grier made some changes to make the dress her own.
“We had to re-strengthen it a little bit to make it tight and smooth,” said Grier, 18, who just started her freshman year at Wake Forest University. “We took out anything poofy because I didn’t want it to be baggy. And we made it strapless.”
“She looked great in it,” said the 59-year-old star. “It’s such an honor when they want to wear your stuff. They don’t usually think I’m cool.”
When Shields met Oprah Winfrey Speaking on Oprah Daily’s “The Life You Want” course, she said one of her daughters was horrified by the dust in her mother’s closet. “If you don’t wear these things, I’ll wear them!” she said.
In addition to the 1997 wedding dress, the college freshman and IMG model also walked the red carpet at CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute in a black Richard Tyler gown that Shields wore to a dance in 2006 when Grier was just six months old. Earlier this year, she also dazzled in one of her mother’s old gold dresses.
