According to the Union-Recorder, firefighters were called to the scene on Georgia Route 15, just outside Greensboro, before 10 a.m.

Officials said the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the fire and explosion.

“We do not currently know all the details of the incident, but I am confident that in the coming weeks we will learn more about the events that led to this tragic event.”

The Union-Recorder reported that Eddy was known among other firefighters for his sense of humor.
