Green Bay Phoenix announces non-conference women’s basketball schedule | WTAQ News Talk | 97.5 FM · 1360 AM
(UW-GREEN BAY ATHLETICS) GREEN BAY – The Green Bay women’s basketball team has announced its schedule for the 2024-25 season. GB will host 11 games and play six of them on the road, including three in the recently announced Puerto Rico Shootout on Thanksgiving weekend. No exhibition games are scheduled.
GB’s non-conference schedule is tough: five teams finished the year in the top 100 of the NCAA NET rankings and five teams made the NCAA Tournament. Eight of the 11 opponents played in the postseason last year.
Green Bay’s first appearance on the floor this season under new head coach Kayla Karius is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 4, on the road against Kansas State. GB has a 2-4 overall record against the Wildcats. It’s been a while since the Phoenix played K-State, beating KSU 68-56 at home on Dec. 5, 2007. The Wildcats finished 19th in the Associated Press Top 25 poll last year and were ranked as high as No. 2 after defeating Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes on Nov. 16, 2023.
The Phoenix will follow up that matchup with a trip to Puerto Rico, where GB will face Virginia (Nov. 28), Drake (Nov. 29) and Norfolk State (Nov. 30) in the Puerto Rico Shootout. All games are scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff. Virginia finished the 2023-24 season with a 16-16 overall record, but played most of its games against AP top-25 teams, earning four wins against such teams. Drake captured the MVC (Missouri Valley Conference) title and made the NCAA Tournament, while Norfolk State is coming off a 27-6 season and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Horizon League schedule is expected to be released in the coming weeks. Season ticket information will also be available soon.
