Gray Media has launched Matrix Midwest in the St. Louis market. The program focuses on sports and entertainment coverage and is available over-the-air and on cable.

The move follows Gray’s introductions at sister networks as the stations work out post-RSN plans. While no major league sports are currently broadcast on the network, it’s easy to imagine they could be added if Bally Sports Midwest is dissolved.

According to JD Sosnoff, vice president and general manager of Matrix Midwest and KMOV, the network aims to meet regional demand for unique sports and entertainment content.

“There is a hunger for more unique sports and entertainment content in the Midwest. We are proud to offer our community another local platform that gives them what they want,” Sosnoff said. “This new network will provide fans with free sports programming through key collaborations like our partnership with Mizzou.”

Beginning August 29, Matrix Midwest will premiere “Mizzou Live,” a pregame and postgame show focusing on the University of Missouri’s SEC sports, sponsored by Paytient.

“This innovative partnership with KMOV, Matrix Midwest and Gray Media will be fantastic for our fans across our great state,” said Laird Veatch, University of Missouri athletic director. “Seeing the Mizzou brand on television in such a unique way each game week during Mizzou Live will increase our exposure from St. Louis to Kansas City and everywhere in between.”

In addition to “Mizzou Live,” the network will air “Tiger Talk” with head coach Eliah Drinkwitz on Tuesday nights. Matrix Midwest will also air “Good Morning Football: Overtime” from the NFL Network on weekday mornings.

“Meaningful partnerships like the ones we are building with the University of Missouri and sports franchises across the state and nationally demonstrate Matrix Midwest and Gray Media’s commitment to our community,” said Mike King, senior managing vice president and chief marketing officer of Gray Media.

The network’s programming includes collaborations with local and national sports franchises such as the St. Louis Blues, St. Louis City SC, Kansas City Chiefs, HBCU Go Sports, Raycom Sports and the Harlem Globetrotters.

In addition to sports, Matrix Midwest offers a variety of entertainment content, including shows such as “Extra,” “Entertainment Tonight” and the main MyNetworkTV program, as well as local productions such as “Great Day St. Louis” and “My St. Louis Live.”
