Firefighters quickly brought a small grass fire in Tilden Regional Park under control on Tuesday, authorities said.
The three-acre fire broke out near Inspiration Point, a popular hiking area in the Berkeley Hills, police said in a Nixle alert. As of 2 p.m., police said residents did not need to take any “protective measures.”
Jen Vanya, a spokeswoman for the East Bay Regional Park District, wrote in an email that the fire had been under control since 3 p.m. and was being “put out” by the park district fire department – a term wildfire fighters use for removing debris that could potentially start a fire.
Vanya said the park district was first notified of the fire at 1:42 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and an evacuation was not necessary.
Firefighters from the Berkeley Fire Department and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) assisted the Park Police, who were responsible for the incident.
