Grandville Public Schools closes Thursday due to alleged threat

Due to an alleged threat, Grandville Public Schools will be closed Thursday, Superintendent Roger Bearup said in a message to families Wednesday.

Staff received a tip from OK2Say describing rumors that someone pulled the fire alarm at Grandville Intermediate on Thursday and “attacked students outside,” Bearup said on the school district’s website.

“We will not be able to conduct a sufficiently thorough investigation until tomorrow morning. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, Grandville Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, September 19, including the preschool and treehouse programs,” Bearup said.

Bearup said the district expects to provide updates on Thursday evening’s activities as it becomes more informed.

Wednesday’s closure comes a week after several Michigan schools were closed last week due to various threats.

These included two threats against Three Rivers Community Schools, one threat against Jenison Public Schools, one threat against Portage North Middle School, and one threat against Marshall Public Schools.

As of Friday, no charges have been filed against anyone in connection with the threats against the schools.
