Gradually warmer during the week; slight chance of rain shortly

Tuesday is expected to bring blue, sunny skies all day, with temperatures rising from 10-15 degrees Celsius to below 25 degrees Celsius, and it’s now a few days until the start of September.

Today and until Wednesday, temperatures will gradually rise, mainly due to southerly winds from an extensive high pressure area in the east.

Temperatures are rising for everyone, but western Nebraska will feel the heat especially hard. After highs of around 95 degrees on Monday, temperatures in the northwest are expected to be in the 90s by the afternoon.

Warm, dry weather with gusty winds and dry vegetation will increase fire danger in the Panhandle through tonight. Red flag warning is intended to show who should avoid actions that could lead to sparks in the fire, which would spread rapidly under these circumstances.

The warmest day of the week will be Wednesday, when temperatures will again reach almost 90 degrees.

A cold front from Wednesday night into Thursday will eventually be felt in the cooler response you will see through Friday.

This cold front will also bring some rain, but coverage from a few isolated thunderstorms looks sparse and patchy right now. The Weather Forecast Center is predicting possibly up to 0.10 inches of rainfall over the next five days for Eastern Nebraska alone.
