Governor Beshear releases tax returns and encourages other state leaders to do the same

FRANKFORT, Kentucky (WYMT) – For the eighth year in a row, Governor Andy Beshear has released his tax returns as a sign of transparency.

Beshear urged other elected officials and state leaders to follow his example and release their own tax returns. So far, Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Coleman is the only other elected official to have released her tax returns.

“Throughout my term in office, I have been committed to being open and transparent with the people of Kentucky and earning their trust,” said Governor Beshear.

“Our public officials must earn the public’s trust by demonstrating that their only interest is the welfare of the people of the Commonwealth. There was a time when this was expected. Now it is the rare exception.”

Beshear’s tax returns, filed jointly with his wife, show that the people of Kentucky are only one employer for him. Coleman’s tax returns show that the people of Kentucky are her only employer.

“Kentucky citizens deserve elected officials who are honest and transparent, and as Lieutenant Governor, I have worked hard to earn their trust,” said Lieutenant Governor Coleman. “I believe elected officials have a responsibility to prove that their interests are aligned with those of their constituents.”

Beshear announced that he received three gifts: tickets to a basketball game in UK, tickets to a soccer game in UK and an honorary membership to the Frankfort Country Club.
