Google TV Streamer supports external storage and runs on Android 14

The Google TV streamer has been official since earlier this week, but since the device hasn’t shipped yet and no one has their hands on it to test, additional information is leaking out to help you decide if you need one. Just today, for example, we’re learning about the expandable storage and what version of Android it runs.

First, we now have confirmation that the Google TV streamer does indeed support external storage. While Google has made it clear that the upgrade to 32GB of storage in this new device is a big upgrade over the 8GB in the Chromecast with Google TV (and it is), some power users may need even more storage.

Google said 9to5Google that the Google TV streamer can technically handle external storage devices via its USB-C port. Unfortunately, there is only a single USB-C port, which is used to power the device. To expand the storage and power the streamer, you would need to use some sort of dongle that gives you an additional port. That will apparently work too.

Google TV Streamer – Connections

And the other part of today’s news concerns the version of Android. The Google TV streamer, according to Mishaal Rahmanruns on Android 14. This would be the first Google TV device with this feature, which should be the case as a device made by Google.

Android 14 for Google TV was announced back in May at Google I/O and is expected to bring big performance improvements as well as multitasking. We hope this refers to Android 14’s picture-in-picture features. There’s more you can read about here.
