Google (GOOGL) reportedly wants to take its artificial intelligence-OpenAI rivalry to the next level of AI models: those that “can be reasonable.”

Have teams at Google have made progress in the last few months about software for AI models that resemble human-like thinking abilities, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. Google has been focused on this for a long time “Reasoning skills” in large language models (LLMs), also in his work Invitation to a chain of thoughts.

This technique, used by Google according to Bloomberg, allows LLMs to solve multi-step problems using “a series of intermediate steps,” much like a human would. Models with this software take longer to respond to requests because they consider similar requests combined into one response. The chain-of-thought technique gives models the ability to solve more complex questions related to mathematics and computer programming.

OpenAI is also use of thought chain prompts for his new o1 model. After the model, internally called “Strawberry,” was released in September, some employees at Google’s DeepMind division feared the company had fallen behind, one person told Bloomberg. However, they added that employees are no longer worried as Google has now introduced more competitors to OpenAI’s products.

Unlike the current version of ChatGPT, OpenAI’s new model does not yet have some of its “useful” features, such as: B. surfing the Internet and uploading files and images. The o1 series models are “designed to require more time to think before reacting,” the company said. The models, the first of which are available in preview in ChatGPT and through the company’s API, can “reason” more complex tasks and problems in science, coding and mathematics than previous OpenAI models.

Google is also working on improving the “reasoning skills” of its Gemini chatbot. In July, Google made its fastest and most cost-effective model, 1.5 Flash, available in the unpaid version of the twins. With 1.5 Flash, Gemini will get “faster and more helpful answers,” Google said, adding that users will notice improvements in Gemini’s reasoning and image processing capabilities.
