Good injury news for the 49ers as superstar RB prepares for his return

Everything is going smoothly for the San Francisco 49ers.

The contract situations of Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams have been clarified and now another superstar is returning to training.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday morning that running back Christian McCaffrey would participate in the 49ers’ bonus workout on Tuesday. It will be McCaffrey’s first appearance for San Francisco since suffering a calf strain in early August. He missed most of training camp and the entire preseason.

Everything indicated that his absence was a precautionary measure, as the 49ers don’t necessarily need to watch McCaffrey practice to know what he’s capable of.

His return is still a good sign that his rehab has gone well. The next step will be to make sure there are no lingering issues from the initial strain, which is what the 49ers wanted to avoid when they kept him out for nearly a month. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him slowly ease back into practice on Tuesday, as the team’s real preparations for Week 1 begin on Thursday.

McCaffrey is the reigning Offensive Player of the Year and a key player in San Francisco’s potential postseason run. He will return to practice along with Aiyuk, who agreed to a contract extension after missing all of training camp. Williams could return to practice on Tuesday, though the team may not want to pressure him to go to practice the day he comes to the facility.

After a turbulent season with McCaffrey’s injury and two major contract disputes, things are finally going well for San Francisco less than a week before their first Monday Night Football game against the New York Jets.
