Gleb Savchenko has broken his silence after Dancing With The Stars pro Artem Chigvintsev was surprisingly arrested on domestic violence charges last month.

Artem, 42, was taken into custody on August 29 after allegedly attacking his now estranged wife, Nikki Garcia, 40, at their home in Napa, California.

Although he did not directly address Artem’s legal problems, Savchenko spoke very positively about his friend during the show’s Season 33 premiere on Tuesday.

Savchenko, 41, has shared a close bond with Artem since he joined Dancing With The Stars full-time in 2014.

Artem is not dancing this season, but Savchenko will compete for the mirrorball trophy with swimsuit model Brooks Nader as her partner.

“He’s part of the family. He’s such a great dancer that people don’t even notice,” Savchenko told E! News about Artem.

“He is the quality. It’s not about quantity, it’s about quality.”

He praised Artem, who specializes in Latin American dances, for always knowing “how to create a beautiful routine.”

Savchenko confirmed to the outlet that he and Artem talk “constantly” and that he considers him a “brother.”

“He’s just my brother and I send him love and positivity,” he said.

Gleb’s comments come less than a week after Artem responded to Nikki’s divorce filing by officially filing for divorce last Friday.

In documents obtained by Us Weekly, the Russian dancer cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation.

He stated that the date of his separation was August 29th – the same day he was arrested for domestic violence following an alleged argument at her home.

Chigvintsev has also applied for joint custody and residency rights for his and Nikki’s four-year-old son Matteo.

He has asked for spousal support and, according to documents, also demanded that Garcia pay his legal fees.

In the filing, Artem claimed that he was a putative spouse between August 26, 2022, and January 19, 2023.

A putative spouse is a person who believes he or she is legally married to someone, but the marriage itself is not valid.

Chigvintsev and Garcia said “I do” in August 2022 during a ceremony in Paris, France.

However, according to Us Weekly, the documents state that the professional dancer also stated that they would have married in the United States in January 2023.

Garcia filed for divorce two days ago Wednesday in Napa Superior Court and requested sole custody and residency of her son.

According to TMZ, she also cited “irreconcilable differences” in the divorce documents and listed August 29, the day of Artem’s arrest, as the date of separation.

The TV personality said she agreed to Artem having visitation rights with their four-year-old son Matteo.

Although Chigvintsev has sought spousal support from Nikki, she has asked that the court be denied the opportunity to award spousal support to either of them.

Just a few days before the professional dancer was handcuffed, the couple had celebrated their second wedding anniversary.

At the time, Chigvintsev shared a heartfelt message in an Instagram post that read: “Happy anniversary my love, I can’t imagine life without you. You are my everything.”

Over Saturday weekend, Chigvintsev updated his Instagram bio by adding his wife’s name back, less than 24 hours after removing it.

Sources recently told DailyMail.com that Chigvintsev is desperately trying to save the marriage.

Police were called to the couple’s $1.5 million marital home in Yountville, California, after reports of an argument emerged on August 29.

According to sources, the couple called 911 twice – first to request help for an injury before calling back and asking paramedics not to come.

But due to the sounds of a domestic dispute in the background, police officers from the Napa Sheriff’s Department nevertheless moved into the couple’s leafy neighborhood and took Chigvintsev away.

He was booked into the Napa County Jail at 10:59 a.m. on domestic violence charges before being released on $25,000 bail at 2:18 p.m.

The arrest, which reportedly came after Garcia threw shoes at her husband, came less than four days after the couple celebrated their wedding anniversary in August 2022 – and both captured the moment on social media.

According to sources, Chigvintsev is scheduled to appear in court in Napa on Tuesday over the incident and is not allowed to leave Napa County until the case is resolved.

And now Artem is said to be determined to prove to his wife Nikki that he “can be a different person.”

While she has reportedly banned Artem from seeing their son Matteo unsupervised and is seeking a divorce lawyer, sources told DailyMail.com that he is fighting “the fight of his life” to win her back – especially now that he has been eliminated from the upcoming season of DWTS.

Chigvintsev has also requested joint custody of his and Nikki’s four-year-old son Matteo.

“Artem is very frustrated and angry that he was not asked to be on this season of Dancing with the Stars and now it looks like he will never be on again,” they said. “His life has been and continues to be turned upside down professionally and personally.”

“He doesn’t know what to do next with Nikki. He’s been angry for a long time and is now fighting for his life to clear his name and win Nikki back. But right now he hasn’t decided what he could do to show her that he can be a different person.”

“At the moment they have only a limited dialogue with each other.”

“When and if he sees Matteo, Nikki wants it monitored. Her trust has been lost and she is very angry with Artem, he has an uphill battle ahead of him. The whole thing is a mess.”

“She’s tried over and over to make it work, but she feels like divorce is the only option. It hurts, but Nikki is such a strong woman and she’s doing what’s right for her and Matteo.”
