Paramount Pictures has announced that the second trailer for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II will hit theaters tomorrow, while also releasing a 30-second spot to announce the launch.
The trailer was viewed by 128 million people worldwide across all social platforms in its first 24 hours, making it Paramount’s best opening to date and easily beating Top Gun: Maverick, which had 75 million views in the same period.
However, the trailer also caused strong backlash because of its choice of music (“No Church in the Wild” by Jay Z and Kanye West) and its length of over three minutes – this could be corrected in a second trailer.
The film, with a budget of over 300 million dollars, was shown at test screenings with very good results, according to the trade press. Scott himself called it “the best thing I’ve ever done… One of the best things.”
Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Connie Nielsen and Denzel Washington lead the cast of the new film, which opens in some international markets on November 15 and in U.S. theaters on November 22.
