Giants’ Malik Nabers dominates the first half against the Browns with two touchdowns

The Giants seem to have a goalie in Malik Nabers.

The rookie wide receiver, selected No. 6 overall by the Giants in this year’s draft, paced the team with six catches, 66 yards and two touchdowns in the first half as Cleveland took a 21-7 halftime lead over the Browns and looked for its first win of the year.

His and Daniel Jones’ performance helped make up for the game’s disastrous first 11 seconds, when Eric Gray botched the opening kickoff and the Browns scored on their first offensive play.

Jones finished the half with 17 of 19 passes for 178 yards, two touchdowns and zero turnovers; however, one of his interceptions was nullified by the Browns due to an “unnecessary roughness on the passer” penalty.

After Devin Singletary tied the game with a rushing touchdown in the first quarter, Nabers made a diving catch in the back left corner of the end zone, barely getting both feet on the ground and then landing his hand out of bounds. It was his first touchdown of the game, giving the Giants a 14-7 lead with 1:44 left in the second quarter.

On this drive, Nabers made an impressive catch when he stole the ball from Browns corner Martin Emerson Jr.

Brian Burns then scored a strip sack that Elijah Chatman recovered just before halftime, giving the Giants the ball back at the Browns’ 30-yard line. This was Burns’ first sack as a Giant.

Four plays later, Jones found Nabers again with 11 seconds left and increased the score to 21:7.
