After a year off from college baseball, former Georgia baseball coach Scott Stricklin is back in the game.

Stricklin is joining Georgia Tech’s baseball staff as director of operations, Stricklin confirmed to the Athens Banner-Herald on Thursday evening.

Georgia parted ways with Stricklin in June 2023 after 10 seasons. He went 299-236-1 with the Bulldogs and 121-146-1 in the SEC with three NCAA tournament appearances.

“I love baseball and have missed being a part of it,” Stricklin said in a text message. “This is a great opportunity to be part of a team full of coaches that I know well, respect and trust. I’m excited to be back in college baseball.”

Stricklin will reteam with longtime Georgia Tech coach Danny Hall. Stricklin served as the Yellow Jackets’ volunteer coach in 1998 and as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Georgia Tech from 2002-04 before becoming the head coach at Kent State from 2005-13, where he played in the College World Series.

Stricklin has been able to spend more time with his family over the past year, including his son Cale, a North Oconee University graduate who started 13 games at catcher for Auburn as a freshman last season.

Stricklin, a native of Athens, Ohio, interviewed for the Ohio State job this year. Now he will stay in-state.

Georgia and Georgia Tech typically play a three-game series each year. The Yellow Jackets went 33-25 last season and lost to Georgia 8-6 in 10 innings in the Athens Regional final.
