The 2024 college football season is fast approaching, with less than two weeks to go. The season will kick off with a huge ACC matchup between Georgia Tech and Florida State. The Yellow Jackets are coming off their first bowl appearance since 2018 and their first bowl win since 2016. For the first time in a long time, there is some momentum in the program, and while they have a tough schedule in 2024, they should find a way to get to another bowl game.

Who could the Yellow Jackets play and where could they play? According to 247Sports analyst Brad Crawford, Georgia Tech will face UAB in the Military Bowl and had this to say about the potential matchup:

“As the saying goes, there’s no bigger jump for a coaching staff in transition than from Year 1 to Year 2, so it’s safe to assume Trent Dilfer and the Blazers made positive strides toward bowl eligibility here with a 6-6 finish. Expectations are a good bit higher for the Yellow Jackets as they welcome back Haynes King, the former Texas A&M quarterback who threw a career-high 27 touchdowns at Georgia Tech last fall.”

UAB hopes for better results in Trent Dilfer’s second season as head coach. UAB finished 4-8 in his debut season but hopes to make a bowl game in 2024.

I think Georgia Tech would be the clear favorite in this bowl game, especially because of their strong offense and expected improving defense.

The game against Florida State will be a huge opener of the season. Florida State is the defending ACC champion and the favorite to win the league again. Georgia Tech may be underdogs by 12 points, but they have the firepower to keep the game close and possibly pull off an upset. It’s the start of a challenging schedule for the Yellow Jackets, but a win in this game could put them off to a great start.
