Georgia Tech announces $1.4 million locker room renovation for swimming and diving teams

Georgia Tech has officially opened a new locker room for the school’s swimming and diving teams. According to the school administrationThe more than $1.4 million renovation of the facility was funded by donors and award winners.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will benefit from the new facilities, which include several innovations, including:

  • modernized visuals throughout the space;
  • 78 state-of-the-art lockers for student athletes;
  • new changing rooms and lounges for coaches;
  • renovated toilets and showers;
  • new, rock-hard epoxy floor.

Interim trainers for swimming and diving, Toni M. and Richard L. Bergmark John Ames Regarding the renovations, he said, “This renovation is the perfect opportunity for our student-athletes to arrive on campus with an exciting and energetic outlook on the future of our program.”

“Both locker rooms are state-of-the-art spaces that would not have been possible without the help of so many award winners and other donors who helped make this a reality and the home of Georgia Tech swimming and diving.”

Despite the facility upgrades, Georgia Tech has still not appointed a new head coach for the swimming and diving program. Ames has served as interim coach since his longtime coach Courtney Shealy Hart announced her withdrawal from the program earlier this month. Hart, who said she resigned to pursue new professional opportunities, coached both teams for 15 years before her departure. The school has not announced whether it plans to hire or promote a head coach before the start of the 2024-2025 NCAA season.

Georgia Tech has been one of the most frequent hosts of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in the past. Most recently, the school hosted the men’s and women’s championships in 2022, with both meets The return to the swimming pool is planned for 2026.The McAuley Aquatic Center currently has space for about 1,900 spectators.
