Georgia football CB Daniel Harris arrested for reckless driving

Another Georgia football player was arrested for reckless driving Thursday night.

Cornerback Daniel Harris was stopped on the Georgia 10 Loop at College Station Road while driving a 2018 Jeep Cherokee at 106 mph — 41 miles over the speed limit — while passing two other vehicles on a wet road in the rain at 8:03 p.m., according to an accident report obtained by the Athens Banner-Herald. The speed was displayed by DragonEye Lidar.

The sophomore from Miami was stopped by Athens-Clarke County police and booked into the Clarke County Jail at 10:40 p.m. He was released on $50 bail at 11:49 p.m., according to the online booking report.

The arrest came less than 48 hours before Georgia’s Saturday night game at Kentucky.

A university spokesman did not immediately respond to a message regarding Harris’ status for the game.

There have been at least 30 arrests or citations for speeding, reckless driving or racing in Georgia since the crash that killed offensive lineman Devin Willock and recruiter Chandler LeCroy on Jan. 15, 2023. Police said LeCroy and defensive tackle Jalen Carter were speeding at about 104 mph. Carter pleaded not guilty to racing and reckless driving charges.

Harris has four tackles in the first two games this season as the top backup. Georgia five-star freshman Ellis Robinson could get more snaps behind starters Daylen Everette and Julian Humphrey if Harris doesn’t play.

The vehicle Harris was driving had a temporary license plate that expired on August 4, 2024. Harris was taken into custody after exiting the vehicle. The vehicle’s registration expired on March 8, 2024, according to a police check and also showed there was no insurance coverage, the accident report states.

The driver’s seat belt was fastened but not used, police said. “This suggests that he was behind his seat during the journey and not carried across his chest and lap,” the report said.

The tint of the windows on the driver’s side was also dark. It had a “0.4 percent light transmittance”.
