WASHINGTON – Behind a 40th Minute goal by the first-grader Selah KolethThe George Washington women’s soccer team earned a 1-1 draw with DMV opponent American on Thursday afternoon to open the 2024 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • 40th Minute: GWs Selah Koleth scored her first college goal, firing a right-footed shot over the outstretched arm of the American goalkeeper to score the winning goal. The assist on the play came from the sophomore Rose Vigran for their first point of the season.
  • 45th Minute: Just five minutes later, the Americans equalized through Bella Vozar. Vozar received a cross from Olivia Simmons and managed to put the shot just past the right post.

REMARKABLE

  • The game was head coach Jeremy Williams’ first time at the helm of the program. Williams will be looking for his first win in Sunday’s game against Binghamton.
  • senior Ainsley Lumpe She was able to save four shots on goal for GW. She had to save a total of 14 shots from the American, five of which were on goal.
  • GW fired 11 shots in the game, two of which came from Koleth. Senior Amelia Booth also scored two shots for Buff & Blue. Only two of GW’s shots in the game were on target.
  • The Revolutionaries finished the game with a narrow 6-5 lead in corners.
  • Booth received a yellow card in the 90th minute.th minute of the game, their first of the season.
