George Clooney says he’s upset because Tarantino doesn’t think he’s a movie star

George Clooney admitted to being “a little irritated” by filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, who admonished him in a recent interview for not being a real “movie star.”

In a joint GQ interview with Brad Pitt, Clooney recalled a recent interview he read with the Pulp Fiction director in which he praised Pitt as a 21st century movie star, but questioned Clooney’s status in that role.

“Quentin said some shit about me recently, so I’m a little irritated with him. He did an interview where he was listing movie stars, and he was talking about you (Pitt) and someone else, and then this guy says, ‘And what about George?’ (Tarantino) says he’s not a movie star,” Clooney said.

“And then he literally said something like, ‘Name me one movie since the turn of the millennium.’ And I was like, ‘Since the turn of the millennium? That’s basically my whole damn career.'”

Clooney and Tarantino collaborated in the 1996 film “From Dusk Till Dawn,” starring Robert Rodriguez, which Tarantino co-wrote and starred in alongside Clooney. They played brothers Seth and Richard Gecko.

In the following years, Clooney starred in the “Ocean’s 11” series, received three Oscar nominations for Best Actor and won Best Supporting Actor for “Syriana” in 2006 – the same year he was nominated for directing and writing the screenplay for “Good Night, and Good Luck”.

“Now I’m like, okay, dude, fuck off,” Clooney continued, referring to the insult. “I don’t mind giving him shit. He gave me shit.”

Pitt, for his part, was a sought-after collaborator of Tarantino, starring in “Inglourious Basterds” and winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

Elsewhere in the joint interview, Pitt and Clooney talked about the different phases of their careers and noted that they would continue to be in competition with each other later in life.

“We both have production companies and we both produced a film that won Best Picture. If I were competing against him with a film we were producing, I would do anything to beat his ass,” Clooney said with a laugh.

“We have a competitive spirit. Like an athlete,” Pitt added. “You take pride in what you do and you really, really want it to work out. But at the same time, I don’t know if I would have reached certain levels if I didn’t have George Clooney in my life. Because that inspires you to keep going.”

The two friends will be seen together in “Wolfs” in September. The film, written and directed by Jon Watts, is about two fixers, Nick (Pitt) and Jack (Clooney), who get the same job and are forced to work together. Pitt and Clooney said it was just another excuse to spend more time together.
