CLEMSON – No. 15 Clemson football beat Stanford on Saturday, winning 40-14 at Memorial Stadium.

The Tigers (3-1, 2-0 ACC) were unable to build a big lead early in the first half against the Cardinals (2-2, 1-1), as they had in the previous two games. Still, they outscored Stanford 23-7 in the second half to secure their second straight ACC win.

Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik wasn’t as sharp as he was against Appalachian State and NC State, but he did post a five-touchdown performance. Defensively, Clemson recorded three turnovers and four sacks.

Clemson faces Florida State (2-1, 1-0) on the road next Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC; 7:00 p.m., ESPN) at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Clemson vs. Stanford results updates

The Tigers earned their second conference win and kept pace with the top teams in the ACC. They defeated Stanford, continuing their overall dominance over the last three weeks.

Clemson leads the all-time series 2-0 against Stanford.

Stanford was scoreless for six possessions after its first score of the second quarter. The losing streak ended with a 22-yard score by Emmett Mosley in the fourth quarter.

After a blocked punt put the Tigers in favorable field position, they capitalized. Clemson scored on four plays and tight end Olsen Patt-Henry topped it off with a 2-yard touchdown.

On the Tigers’ first play of the fourth quarter, Klubnik found Wesco, who was alone, and the freshman knocked the Stanford defender out of bounds to score. It was Klubik’s third touchdown of the game.

Klubnik found wide receiver TJ Moore for a 30-yard grab, but the play was overturned. Klubnik went right back to the deep ball and found Turner in the end zone.

Klubnik made a lot of deep passes on Saturday, but he found Turner perfectly to extend Clemson’s lead.

On the Cardinals’ first play of their third drive of the second half, Stanford quarterback Ashton Daniels tried to find his teammate and Woodaz jumped into the air for the interception. It’s Woodaz’s first interception this season and the third of his college career, once again halting Stanford’s offense.

The Cardinal crossed into Clemson territory again but could not break through into the end zone.

Tigers linebacker Sammy Brown recorded a tackle to force a fourth down and safety RJ Mickens made the drive-ending tackle as Stanford attempted fourth down.

The Tigers put together a 12-play, 58-yard drive that ended with a 33-yard field goal by Nolan Hauser. Running back Phil Mafah and wide receiver TJ Moore made key gains to put Clemson into Stanford territory, but the Tigers’ push stalled.

After knocking on the doorstep for points, Stanford finally broke through seconds before halftime. Stanford quarterback Ashton Daniels found wide receiver Elic Ayomanor for the 19-yard score to get the Cardinal on the board.

The Tigers needed four drives to put together a touchdown drive. Running back Phil Mafah finally managed a 26-yard run, setting up tight end Jake Briningstool’s 3-yard score.

The Tigers’ defense responded after allowing Stanford to move into their territory on consecutive drives by forcing three consecutive punts.

The Tigers wanted to extend their lead, but Klubnik threw a ball to running back Phil Mafah, but it was intercepted by Stanford’s Collin Wright. It appeared Mafah slowed down to pass the ball on the path leading to the Stanford defensive back.

The Cardinal had another promising drive into Clemson territory, but quarterback Ashton Daniels threw an interception. He forced a pass into tight coverage instead of throwing it away, and Lukus was there to intercept the pass.

The Tigers could have scored another touchdown, but quarterback Cade Klubnik threw past Bryant Wesco Jr. despite the 70-yard reception. Clemson’s offense stalled in the red zone and he elected to kick a 20-yard field goal rather than attempt it on fourth-and-3.

Stanford responded after giving up a high score to advance deep into Clemson territory. But Stanford quarterback Ashton Daniels forced a throw into the end zone, and Tigers cornerback Avieon Terrell intercepted him in the end zone.

It is Terrell’s second interception of his college career.

On third-and-10, Klubnik scrambled to his right and broke through Stanford’s defense to score the game’s first goal.

Klubnik has scored a rushing touchdown in three straight games.

Stanford tried in its own territory on fourth-and-one, but Woodaz forced a fumble. A Cardinal player recovered it, but the recovery was behind the first-down line. Clemson takes over Stanford territory.

Stanford will get the ball first.
