Game preview | St. Louis CITY SC hosts cross-state rival Sporting KC at CITYPARK

St. Louis CITY SC hosts Sporting KC at CITYPARK this Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT. The game is the third and final meeting between the two teams this season. Fans can watch the action live with the MLS Season Pass on Apple TV and listen via radio on KYKY 98.1 FM (English) and on KXOK 102.9 FM (Spanish).

The rivalry has already produced entertaining matchups, with the teams combining to score 20 goals in five regular season games since the 2023 season. St. Louis is ahead in the regular season with a 2-1-2 record. St. Louis is undefeated in the regular season against KC at CITYPARK, posting 4-0 and 4-1 scores at home in both games last season.

Both teams are looking for their first win of the series this season. CITY SC and Sporting played to a 3-3 and 1-1 draw at Children’s Mercy Park earlier in the season. Klauss, Célio Pompeu, Tomas Totland and Nökvvi Thórisson each scored a goal against Sporting in those games, while Klauss, Chris Durkin, Rasmus Alm, Akil Watts and John Klein provided assists.

Eduard Löwen leads the series with three assists, while Klauss and Alan Pulido lead the scorers list with three assists each.

St. Louis enters the game on a winning note after picking up its first road win of the season last weekend against San Jose. Cedric Teuchert and Marcel Hartel each scored a goal against the Earthquakes in this game. Teuchert’s goal was his fourth in his MLS career and his sixth since joining St. Louis. Three of Teuchert’s four league goals came within the first ten minutes of the game.

Hartel also scored his second MLS goal and fifth assist in this game. Jannes Horn also received his first career assist for St. Louis.

Sporting KC enters the game looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 2-0 home loss to Minnesota United and Wednesday’s 3-1 overtime loss at the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Sporting has an away record of 2-10-3 in the regular season.
