SHREWSBURY – An indoor amusement park with lots of trampolines is scheduled to open in Olde Shrewsbury Village by the end of the year.
Fun City Adventure Park, an amusement park founded in 2015, recently applied to the city to take over the former site of the now-closed Christmas Tree Shop, its owner Zi Qian Zhang said Wednesday.
Christmas Tree Shops closed last year following a company-wide liquidation of stores as a result of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
Zhang said Fun City has over 20 locations across the country, including some in Massachusetts. The company also operates locations in Taunton, Springfield and Seekonk.
Zhang, whose operations are based in Fall River, said the Shrewsbury location will feature high-performance and regular trampolines, a climbing wall and a playground for toddlers, among other amenities.
The total area is around 3,700 square meters.
“Many trampoline parks only have trampolines, no other equipment,” Zhang said. “People are fed up with that.”
“This one has everything you could imagine.”
Christmas Tree Shops closed last year after 35 years in Olde Shrewsbury Village.
Zhang bought the property in March for $13.6 million from the son of Charles and Doreen Bilezikian, who bought the original Christmas Tree Gift Shop in Yarmouthport in 1970 and later expanded it into a regional business.
Zhang said the Fun City locations are owned by “family and partners.”
The possibility of converting the Shrewsbury site into a trampoline park first came up in April when Town Manager Kevin Mizikar announced it during a Select Board meeting, calling the move “good news” and beneficial for Olde Shrewsbury Village.
If the city approves, the park will be less than two miles from Launch Family Entertainment, another trampoline park on Route 9 in Westborough.
Also on Route 9 is an indoor bounce house park called Jump Nation, less than a mile from Olde Shrewsbury Village.
