Freeboot Friday makes fans excited for the game ECU vs. App State

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) – The East Carolina University football team looks to continue its winning streak when it takes on Appalachian State University on Saturday afternoon, and fans already indulged in a little pregame fun the night before.

The energy was electric Friday night at Five Points Plaza in Greenville as the Pirate Nation came together for the second Freeboot Friday celebration of the season.

Fans new and old were excited to hang out with family and friends before Saturday’s game against rival App State.

Hana White arrived from Charlotte on Friday and said she was ready to cheer on the Pirates.

“This is my first game here and my first time in Greenville,” White said. “I’m just really excited to be here.”

Fans enjoyed live music from the Holler Choir and food from local food trucks. They even had the chance to meet the legendary Pitt County girls softball team and get a signed photo.

Billy Bodette had a blast at the freeboot on Friday and said he’s looking forward to kickoff at 4 p.m. Saturday at Dowdy-Ficklen.

“First of all, we’re here to support our community, but also our ECU Pirates, who we believe will have a huge win tomorrow,” said Bodette. “We’re having a great time here.”

The Pirates, who currently lead 2-0, want to remain undefeated.

According to ECU Athletics, more than 50,000 tickets were sold for Saturday’s game.

A win for ECU would bring the record to 3-0 for the first time since 2008.
