Frederick Burgess on the impact of volunteer work

ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – True love for one’s community can bring surprising rewards in the most unexpected times.

The Stop the Violence program, led by Fredrick Burgess, is a testament to this principle. The initiative aims to reduce violence by engaging children in positive activities. The program’s commitment to community service over the years has been recognized with a plaque of honor.

“There’s a lot of violence going on right now,” Burgess said. “I just hope that we all come together and … just all work in the community and just do the same thing that we all do for the kids. If they want to, not only start an organization, but if they want to be productive, then just get out of the community and start volunteering and just help other kids.”

Burgess reflected on the personal fulfillment he gets from his work.

“It was a good feeling to have someone from the South call me from the Times-Picayune and see my article,” Burgess said. “It was a good feeling for me to have my work in Alexandria not only shown here, but also in Lafayette, in Baton Rouge and in New Orleans. And now it’s being shown.”

Burgess said he always knew his faith and hard work would pay off and open new doors for him.
