Fox News’ Janice Dean is emotional about Cuomo’s appearance in Washington DC over COVID-19 nursing home deaths

Fox Meteorologist Janice Dean, whose mother-in-law and father-in-law died of COVID in a nursing home along with thousands of other New York seniors, attended a House subcommittee hearing in DC on Tuesday where former Gov. Andrew Cuomo was questioned about his administration’s handling of the outbreak.. Dean, a frequent Cuomo criticshares her thoughts on his performance, as told to The Post’s Statehouse reporter Vaughn Golden.

Tuesday’s hearing was similar – more of what we saw when reports first surfaced that then-Governor Cuomo had placed COVID-positive patients in nursing homes and the questions began.

Instead of showing remorse or apologizing to the families, he blamed others and accepted no responsibility.

I am grateful for the subcommittee because now we have all kinds of documentation.

There is paperwork.

There is evidence that he lied and denied the allegations and should be held accountable.

DC has done more work than Albany ever did.

To be quite honest, it’s embarrassing for Albany because DC is doing the work that New York should have been doing all along.

The fact that the subcommittee must subpoena Governor Hochul to produce important documents and information makes it clear that this is a continuation of the Cuomo administration – more of the same.

Instead of being open and transparent and wanting to get to the bottom of things, it is still about hiding, denying and lying.

But I am really proud of the work of the committee.

It proved much of what we all suspected: that COVID-positive patients were being placed in nursing homes.

Thousands of them.

A report was released, written by the state’s executive chamber and Cuomo, to try to absolve himself of all blame.

However, there were text messages and documents from his administration asking, “Should we go ahead and admit our mistake?”

Because that was a big mistake.

And he never admitted any of it.

So the proof was there.

He was there with his lawyers and they gave him notes. This suggests that he has to be very careful about what he says because of the court proceedings.

He really feels no remorse.

I said from the beginning: If he had called the families, if he had apologized, if he had said that he made a mistake and would spend the rest of his career making amends for that mistake, we would not be here today.

He’s chasing that $5 million book deal instead of saying, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry there are bodies piling up in front of the nursing homes and you haven’t been able to see your loved ones.”

He couldn’t even look us in the face.

The subcommittee asked him several times to take a moment to look into the faces of the families who had lost loved ones, but he never did.

That told me he would never apologize or show remorse, and he really isn’t capable of doing that.

Six months ago, a year ago, or even two years ago, I would have said, I don’t think I’ll ever get the answers and closure I’m looking for.

But the fact that we are here today with a document in place and further investigations pending shows, as Chairman Brad Wenstrup told us, that’s not all.

They’re going to go ahead and issue a new document, a debriefing, which New York hasn’t done. The fact that we’re relying on Washington, DC, to issue a debriefing for New York State – that’s just pathetic.

But I am happy with the results because for many of the things we have asked for, many of the things we have talked about and that have worried us, there is evidence. There is documentation and that is indisputable.
