Former President Donald Trump will hold a “No Tax on Tips” event in Nevada

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Former President Donald Trump is expected back in Las Vegas this week to talk about his “no tax on tips” proposal.

The Trump team announced the planned event in Las Vegas as part of a week-long tour of swing states ahead of the Democratic National Convention taking place in Chicago this week.

Trump will stop in Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina and Arizona before concluding his tour here in Las Vegas on Friday, August 23. At the time of this report, the Trump campaign had not released further details about when and where the event would take place.

The idea of implementing a “no tax on tips” is on everyone’s lips on both sides of the political spectrum, and the measure has garnered national attention in recent weeks.

At a campaign rally in Las Vegas last week, Vice President Kamala Harris spoke in favor of the proposal. Her support came several weeks after Trump first mentioned it, also in Las Vegas, at his most recent rally here on June 9.

“This is the first time I’ve ever said this, and the hotel workers and people who get tips are going to be very happy because when I get into office, we’re not going to raise taxes on tips,” Trump told voters in Southern Nevada. “We’re not going to do it, and we’re going to do it right away, right after I take office, because this has been a point of contention for years and years and years…”

Supporters who recently attended a rally in Henderson with Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, carried campaign signs reading “NO TAX ON TIPS.”

By that time, Texas Senator Ted Cruz had already introduced a bill called the “No Tax on Tips Act,” which his office said would exempt tips from federal income tax.

Since then, Democratic Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jacky Rosen have spoken out in favor of the measure.

“Nevada voters know Donald Trump as someone who will screw them over at every opportunity,” the Harris campaign wrote in a statement in response to the Trump campaign’s announcement. “Nevada residents know Trump is not with us, and the workers here are coming together to defeat him, just like we did last time.”

Nevada, the state with the highest concentration of tipped workers, is the only swing state where Trump still holds a narrow lead over Harris, according to a Cook Political Report Swing State Project Survey released Wednesday.
