Former NFL star Cam Newton didn’t mince his words when he spoke about Tyreek Hill’s incarceration before the Miami Dolphins’ Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hill’s incident with Miami-Dade police kept the NFL world on tenterhooks for several days as bodycam footage showed the intense moments when Hill was stopped, dragged from his vehicle and handcuffed while lying on the ground.

The former NFL MVP analyzed the interaction in an episode of the “4th & 1 Podcast.”

“Brother, right there – obey! I’m just trying to keep you alive,” he said after bodycam footage showed Hill hesitating to roll down his window. “I don’t talk to Tyreek Hill any more than I talk to anyone else that gets pulled over on a daily basis.”

Newton was surprised when Hill rolled the window back up.

“If you roll the window down and then roll it back up, brother, don’t do that. You can’t do that,” Newton said. “That puts you in danger and you have to put yourself in the cop’s shoes. He doesn’t know what the hell is in that damn car.”

Newton made it clear that he was not on the side of the officers in this situation, but wanted to express “how the situation could have turned out a little differently.”

He added that if Hill was just a normal human being, he would have “resisted arrest.”

“When they say get out of the damn car, it’s over,” he added.
