Former NFL star arrested for alleged assault on 82-year-old man

A former New England Patriots fullback was arrested on September 18 and charged with a felony after allegedly assaulting an 82-year-old man, according to CBS News and numerous other sales outlets.

Patrick Pass, 46, was arrested in Rhode Island following an Aug. 28 incident in which he shoved the unidentified octogenarian during an argument over exercise equipment at a Planet Fitness gym. The victim reportedly suffered lower back injuries.

According to the arrest records obtained by CBSPass was charged with assault on a person over 60 years of age causing bodily injury (a Rhode Island felony) and disturbing the peace (a misdemeanor). Pass was released on $10,000 bail and ordered not to have any contact with the victim.

The Patriots drafted Pass in 2000, the same year that Tom Brady was added to the roster. During Pass’s tenure, the team won three Super Bowls. Over the course of his career, Pass rushed for 1,096 yards. During his seven years with the team, he ran for three touchdowns and caught another.

Pass never truly recovered from a hamstring injury he suffered in 2005, and played only four more games before retiring from the NFL in 2009. He later coached the Boston Freedom Fighters and the Massachusetts Pirates, but was suspended indefinitely by the Indoor Football League (IFL) in 2023 after a riot in which Pass and several players entered the stands and fought with spectators. However, he is still listed as the Pirates’ director of personnel development.

Pass must appear in court again in January.
