A former NFL player who won three championships for the Patriots is suspected of attacking an 82-year-old man at a Rhode Island gym during a scuffle over exercise equipment.
North Providence police arrested Patrick Pass, 46, on Wednesday, September 18, on suspicion of assault and battery on a man over the age of 60.
Pass was released on $10,000 bail following the arraignment and ordered not to have any contact with the alleged victim. He will appear in court again in January.
The incident occurred on August 28 at a Planet Fitness studio, according to authorities. The two men allegedly had an argument over a piece of exercise equipment; Pass allegedly pushed the older man, who fell and injured his back, police said.
Last year, Pass was fired from his coaching job in the Indoor Football League after storming into the stands during a game in Phoenix.
Pass was a fullback for the Patriots at the beginning of the Brady-Belichick dynasty. A running back from Georgia, he was selected by New England in the seventh round of the 2000 NFL Draft.
He won the Super Bowl in 2002, 2004 and 2005, but left the Patriots after the 2006 season. He played only one more game for the Giants in 2007 before ending his career.
In 2020, Pass became head coach of the Massachusetts Pirates, a team in the Indoor Football League, and two years later he was named director of football development.
The league suspended him indefinitely in July 2023 for an altercation during a game that spilled into the stands. The Pirates were playing the Arizona Rattlers in Phoenix when a verbal exchange between a fan and a player ended with Pass and three Pirates players jumping over the sideline barrier.
