Former Detroit Tigers defender signed by division rival

The mood around the Detroit Tigers is great right now.

Although they are not really in the race for the playoffs, their decision to bring in their young players and promising stars has catapulted them into one of the strongest teams in all of baseball in recent weeks.

Not only does this give players their first experience in the major leagues, but it also allows management to assess which areas of the roster need improvement in the offseason to make the team competitive again.

While it might be a few years before the Tigers reach that status, one of their former players has the opportunity to compete for a division title and a postseason berth.

By announcement The Kansas City Royals have claimed Robbie Grossman off waivers after he was claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers on August 29.

The 34-year-old won the World Series with the Rangers last season after signing with them as a free agent. They re-signed him this year in a trade with the Chicago White Sox in early May, but as Texas got healthier in the outfield, they decided to trade him.

Grossman was with Detroit for about a year and a half starting in 2021.

In his first season, he posted fairly good numbers, .239/.357/.415, coupled with a career-high 23 home runs and 67 RBIs. He also stole 20 bases that year, becoming the seventh player in franchise history to post a 20-20 season.

The following season, Grossman made Major League Baseball history by going 401 consecutive games without an error, with his final season ending at 440.

But later that year, the Tigers decided to send him to the Atlanta Braves at the trade deadline when his offensive performance completely declined.

The veteran outfielder will now join a Royals team that desperately needs extra help to win its first AL Central Division title since 2015.
