Forest Service announces recruitment of 250 firefighters – KCSR / KBPY

The USDA Forest Service’s Rocky Mountain Region employs more than 250 permanent seasonal firefighters to fight wildfires on national forests and grasslands in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.

Firefighter positions include engine operators, hotshot crew members, hand crew members, helitack crew members, tanker fire engine technicians, tanker fire engine base managers, fuel technicians, fire protection specialists, assistant fire officers, dispatchers and other essential fire protection positions.

Information about the positions, including job locations and application details, is available online at the Regional Fall Fire Hiring webpage. Job seekers can apply for the 250 wildland firefighter positions through USAJobs.gov for 33 days from August 23 to September 24, 2024.

Any U.S. citizen or national who is at least 18 years old may apply. Hiring managers use direct-hire authority to hire applicants, meaning veterans’ preferences and traditional evaluation and ranking of applicants do not apply.
