  • The upcoming film “The Mandalorian & Grogu” promises to return to the core of the duo’s adventures with a character-driven approach.

Followed Star Wars’ stumbles with The Mandalorian Season 3, The Mandalorian and Grogu was tasked with fixing the story of Din Djarin and Grogu, and the film has already proven that it will do just that. As some of the Star Wars’ best characters of the last years, Din and Grogu’s story means a lot to star Wars Enthusiasts, especially those who either through The Mandalorian or those who consider it their favorite dish star Wars Project. After The Mandalorian Season 2 however star Wars began to stumble and big mistakes were made.

It began partly in The Mandalorian the season 2 finale itself, when Din Djarin received Moff Gideon’s Darksaber in battle. While this was a highly valued decision at the time, it led Din into a larger conflict that didn’t fit his character. Din was then drawn into another conflict for a while, which led to him infamously taking over the second half of Boba Fett’s spin-off series The Book of Boba Fettwhich led to him being reunited with Grogu far too quickly. All of this culminated in The Mandalorian Season 3 failed to give Din and Grogu the story they needed.

Everything we know about the Mandalorian and the Grogu movie

The Mandalorian story will continue with a Star Wars movie. Here’s everything we know about the project, including cast, release, and schedule.

Star Wars tried to tell Mandalore’s story with Din Djarin

Mandalore was the focus instead of the titular Mandalorian

Star Wars’ biggest mistake with The Mandalorian Season 3 focused on Mandalore rather than the titular Mandalorian. Although the vagueness of The MandalorianThe title has been debated for years, but it is clear that it refers to Din Djarin himself, as this character is still often advertised as just “the Mandalorian.” This was reflected in the narrative of The Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2, which specifically followed the episodic adventures of Din and Grogu while building a loose, overarching story. The narrative was character drivenwhat made the show and these characters so appealing.

The Mandalorian Season 3 lost sight of this and instead focused on Mandalore rather than “the Mandalorian” – which just didn’t work with a character like Din Djarin. Since then The MandalorianSince his inception, Din has been marketed as a lone gunslinger who adapted the most popular aspects of the Western genre while simultaneously reinforcing Grogu and the star Wars Connotations that naturally come with the character “Baby Yoda”. The show made it clear that Din had no real connection to Mandaloreand made it clear several times that it was not a race but a creed. Nevertheless, they tried to tell the story of the planet through it.

Din Djarin comes from the planet Aq Vetina, but grew up on Concordia, Mandalore’s moon. He tells Grogu in
The Mandalorian
Season 3 that he has never been to Mandalore before. It is in
The Mandalorian
In the finale of the first season, he says that Mandalorian is not a race, but a creed.

Mandalore’s story had to be told differently

Ironically, The Mandalorian was not the right series for this story

Despite his title The Mandalorian was simply not the right place to tell Mandalore’s story, and star Wars should have told it differently. Bo-Katan Kryze was always the clear, leading figure in Mandalore’s story, a role she has held ever since Star Wars: The Clone Wars over a decade ago, and There was never a reason to put Din Djarin next to her in this role. Had star Wars had decided to make another spin-off series that focused primarily on Bo-Katan and the other Mandalorians liberating Mandalore, many of the mistakes of season three could have been avoided.

It is not like star Wars is against the creation of further spin-offs from The Mandalorian; both The Book of Boba Fett And Ahsoka came directly from their first live-action TV show. They even had another series, Ranger of the New Republicin the works until problems behind the scenes quickly prevented this series from ever being filmed. The energy that Ranger of the New Republic could have been diverted to the production of a Mandalore-specific series in which Bo-Katan could take her rightful place without facing the heat of disappointed The Mandalorian Viewers.

The end of the third season of The Mandalorian explained

The third season of The Mandalorian ended with an action-packed finale that included plenty of surprising twists and hints about the future.

The focus on Mandalore hurt Din Djarin and Grogu’s own story

Her character-based narrative disappeared in Season 3

Unfortunately, the focus on Mandalore has overshadowed the story of Din Djarin and Grogu in The Mandalorian Season 3 before it even began. While the first mistake was technically giving Din Djarin the Darksaber and permanently tying him to the conflict on Mandalore until he could get rid of it, Din and Grogu’s appearances in The Book of Boba Fett sealed the deal. “Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalore” is exactly what The Mandalorian The premiere of season 3 should have beenas it utilized the show’s character-driven storytelling and built directly on the season two finale.

This was the narrative that Din Djarin and Grogu needed in Season 3. The focus on reclaiming Mandalore went too far beyond these two characters, the relationship that has always been the core foundation of the series. What was particularly problematic about this was that Din and Grogu clearly had no place in the battle for Mandalore, as evidenced by the fact that the two had no interest in living on the Mandalorian homeworld, even after helping to save it.. This couple has always been destined for their own adventures, and The Mandalorian Season 3 seemed to forget that.

The Mandalorian & Grogu finally return to the core of this story

While this damage cannot be undone, the story of Din Djarin and Grogu can at least be improved from now on, and that is exactly what The Mandalorian and Grogu Film has already arrived. In exclusive footage shown at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, it is clear that Din and Grogu have once again taken control of their own narrative. Although filming has only been going on for a few weeks and so only limited footage has been shown, likely all from one mission, it is very clear that Din and Grogu’s episodic adventures are coming to the big screen.

To keep the film from feeling aimless, The Mandalorian & Grogu obviously uses an overarching narrative, but to achieve this it takes a more character-driven approach.

Excerpts are shown that are strongly reminiscent of The Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2, from the literal return of the Razor Crest (or at least a newer version of it) to Din and Grogu completing a bounty hunting mission together. Of course, a few natural things have changed, like the dynamic between Din and Grogu as mentor and apprentice rather than just protector and child, but a lot of it feels very much like what audiences first saw years ago, with Din taking command on his own and Grogu working in his own way to help him as his accomplice.
