HMD adds nostalgic designs and accents to its devices and smartphones. After the HDM Skyline (review), which takes its look from Nokia’s Lumia series, the company is now launching a Barbie-inspired phone. The upcoming device has apparently been photographed by a certification body, showing off the playful finish and design.

HMD has already confirmed when its Barbie phone will launch, and has also shared a sneak peek of the device, which features a bright pink accent on the case in collaboration with Mattel. Close-up images of the Barbie phone were posted on China’s TENAA, suggesting it will launch in China in addition to global markets.

Lots of pink on HMD’s Barbie phone

The listing also highlights that the HMD Barbie handset will be a feature phone rather than a smartphone. It is also seen to feature a clamshell form factor rather than a brick or slab like many of HMD’s current feature phone entries.

Furthermore, the outer cover of the device has a built-in 1.17-inch LCD screen, which provides another way to check notifications and status without having to unfold the device. Also, an archaic 0.3MP camera and LED flash are built into the glass that covers the display while it sits on a pink casing. Likewise, the back of the other half has Barbie and HMD logos printed on it.

The two-tone pink accents extend to the hinge and internal components. As you can see, there is a physical T9 keyboard, while a D-pad and buttons are located below the 2.8-inch main display on the top shell.

As with all HMD feature phones, the Barbie Phone’s battery is removable through the back of the lower half of the case. In addition, it will apparently support dual SIM and microSD cards for memory expansion.

HMD Barbie Phone Specifications

The same listing lists the HMD Barbie phone as having a 1GHz single-core processor, 64MB of RAM, 128MB of onboard storage, and a 1,450mAh battery capacity. The new clamshell phone measures 108 x 55 x 18.9mm when folded and weighs 123 grams. In terms of connectivity, it has a USB port, Bluetooth, and 4G LTE.

HMD has not yet officially announced what the Barbie phone will be called or how much it will cost. The Finnish company has planned a launch event for August 28.
