Panthers finished the season with an overall record of 13-3-5
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech men’s soccer team was picked to finish second when the Sunshine State Conference coaches released their annual preseason poll.
Tech finished last season with an overall record of 13-3-5 and an SSC record of 7-1-2. The Panthers advanced to the SSC championship game against Barry with a win over Rollins.
The team consists of 22 men from last season’s squad that finished the season in the NCAA Final Four and became champions of the South Region.
Returning players include USC National Player of the Year Sjur Drechsler and USC All-American goalie Iker Bastida. The Panthers also signed 10 new faces who will quickly contribute to the Crimson and Grays.
Barry, the 2023 SSC Tournament winner, is expected to lead the conference again, earning 95 points and five first-place finishes. Florida Tech also collected five first-place finishes and finished in second place with 92 points.
Rollins received the final first-place vote, but was voted fourth with 73 points, behind Lynn’s 80. Nova Southeastern rounded out the top five with 61 points.
Tampa (57) is in sixth place, followed by Palm Beach Atlantic (45) and Florida Southern (40) in seventh and eighth place.
Saint Leo (29), Eckerd (17) and Embry-Riddle (16) occupy the last three places.
The Panthers open their season on September 6 with a game against Lander University in Winter Park, Florida.
