Florida State football fans prepare for game against Georgia Tech in Ireland

And finally, Florida State’s football season (number 10) is just a few hours away.

The Seminoles and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets each traveled 4,000 miles to Dublin, Ireland, for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic on Saturday.

Kickoff is at 12pm on ESPN and the game is sold out (47,000). The weather forecast calls for significant cloud cover with occasional rain showers and temperatures around 18 degrees.

FSU is listed as favorite with 10.5 points.

FSU fans bought 11,000 tickets to the game, filling the streets of Dublin, with many of them watching the three-hour College GameDay broadcast from College Green near Trinity College.

Kirk Herbstreit draws the wrath of FSU football fans

As expected, FSU is expressing its displeasure with boos and creative signs for broadcaster Kirk Herbstreit. Herbstreit has faced the wrath of FSU supporters on social media since he first voiced his stance on the Seminoles’ ineligibility for the College Football Playoff last season despite winning the ACC championship and finishing the regular season 13-0.

“The crowd is making Herbie sad,” said David Ponder, a former Seminole player and father of former FSU quarterback Christian Ponder, who traveled to Dublin with his wife, Christine. “The fans are booing and drowning him out.”

“Dublin is full of Nole fans”

Needless to say, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the game as it will be the first opportunity for FSU fans to see the new-look Seminoles. And it starts at quarterback, with former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei taking over.

“Dublin is packed with Nole fans,” said Mike Harrison, an FSU season ticket holder and Tallahassee resident whose eight-person travel party arrived in Ireland earlier this week.

“It’s really amazing how many people have come out to see this team. It’s a clear reflection of the confidence we have in coach (Mike) Norvell.”

And Harrison’s group – even 4,084 miles away and regardless of game time (Dublin is five hours ahead of Eastern Time) – took their traditional pregame Fireball photo.
