Flooding leads to closure of intersections and displacement of nursing home residents

WHITEHALL, Michigan – Flooding from heavy rains in Muskegon County Tuesday evening brought some motorists to a halt but forced others to continue.

Some residents of the SKLD were forced out of their rooms by the water.

The care facility announced this on its website on Wednesday morning and assured families that their loved ones were safe:

Attention SKLD Whitehall families and friends –

We are currently experiencing some minor flooding issues in the facility. All residents have been evacuated to another part of the facility. We want to make sure everyone knows that all residents are OK! We will keep you updated as we work diligently to repair the building and get residents back in their rooms!

Thank you for your understanding.

It is currently not known when residents will be able to return to their rooms.

The facility is not the only area suffering from flooding – intersections across the city have been closed as water levels continued to rise.

And although conventional wisdom holds that even 15 cm of water can sweep away cars, some threw caution to the wind and drove into the makeshift ponds, leaving waves of rainwater behind them.

Other areas were now simply too deep to get through.
