Today will be hot again in North Georgia, with highs again in the 30s this afternoon. Scattered showers or thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening (20% coverage), but most of us will stay dry.

FIRST WEATHER WARNING DAY Wednesday to Friday

A tropical wave in the Caribbean is forecast to develop into Tropical Storm Helene today. Helene will eventually move north into the Gulf of Mexico and become a major hurricane before making landfall in Florida on Thursday. The system will then move north through Georgia and is expected to have significant impacts in northern Georgia on Thursday and Friday.

Wednesday in North Georgia

Due to a cold front, showers and thunderstorms are expected, especially on Wednesday afternoon and evening. On Wednesday, rain and lightning will be the main hazards.

Thursday in North Georgia

Due to Helene, heavy rain is expected throughout the day Thursday, with the possibility of flooding, especially Thursday night. Our wind gusts will also increase Thursday evening, reaching tropical storm strength, which is 39 mph more.

The combination of heavy rain and gusty winds could down trees and destroy power lines through Thursday night.

Friday in North Georgia

Heavy rain and strong winds will continue through Friday, particularly Friday morning. Flooding and the risk of downed trees and power lines will continue through Friday afternoon.

By Friday night, the heavy rain and winds will move north and leave northern Georgia.
