First wedding guest divides opinions about the choice of dress, which is perceived as “far too much”

A woman who attended a wedding for the first time has divided opinions after posting a picture of the outfit she planned to wear for the occasion online.

On Reddit, the user under the name @FoxFallsFromYou posted a selection of different dresses and looked for advice on which one to choose.

On the social media platform she wrote: “First wedding guest.

“I have never been to a wedding, except as a child and at my own wedding.”

“It’s black tie, all the men will wear tuxedos. The bride has given my husband permission to wear his tuxedo from our wedding.

“I’m confused as to whether the dress is appropriate for a wedding. Personally, I wouldn’t mind if a guest wore it to me, but mine was semi-formal.”

Other users, reacting to a photo of the dress, expressed mixed feelings about the original poster’s choice, pointing out that the dress may have been too revealing, thereby distracting attention from the bride.

They wrote: “It’s… a lot. I’m just being honest. Please at least have it hemmed so it doesn’t look like a bridal train.”

“Don’t get me wrong, you look fantastic. Maybe you should save that for an important day when it’s more appropriate to draw so much attention to yourself.”

Another said: “Way too much cleavage for a wedding.”

“A girl wore a dress like this at my wedding and a lot of people were giving her sideways glances and whispering. She also had a few ‘mishaps’ throughout the evening.”

One wrote: “I think you need to rethink your role as a wedding guest.”

“Wedding culture is pretty well established now and veterans will think you’re being petty.

“The wedding is for the bride. She has invested a lot of time and money into planning this celebration for you to enjoy. Consider her feelings when choosing your outfit.”

Another posted: “Agreed. People still comment on ‘the girl in the red dress’ from my wedding six years ago.”

One person complained: “That’s WAY too much cleavage.”

Another said: “The cleavage is not appropriate for a wedding where a tuxedo is required.”
