Netflix unveils first images of “The Electric State,” a sci-fi film from the Russo brothers starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.

Netflix has released a handful of first look images for The Electric Statethe new film by Avengers: Endgame Directors Joe and Anthony Russo. Based on the illustrated novel by Simon Stålenhag, the film is set in an alternate, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s, where sentient robots that once served peacefully among humans now live in exile after a failed uprising.

The official synopsis of The Electric State reads: “The Electric State is a spectacular adventure from the directors of Avengers: Endgame takes place in an alternative, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) stars Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots that once served peacefully among humans now live in exile after a failed uprising. Everything Michelle thinks she knows about the world is turned upside down one night when she is visited by Cosmo, a sweet, mysterious robot who is apparently controlled by Christopher – Michelle’s genius younger brother, who she thought was dead. Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost, Michelle sets off with Cosmo across the American Southwest and soon reluctantly teams up with Keats (Chris Pratt, Guardians of the Galaxy), a low-rent smuggler, and his wisecracking robot sidekick Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie). As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a walled corner of the desert where robots now live on their own, Keats and Michelle meet a strange, colorful group of new animatronic allies – and begin to learn that there are more forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are scarier than they ever expected.“

The Electric State Featuring Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Norman, Giancarlo Esposito and Stanley Tucci. The film also features the vocal talents of Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Hank Azaria, Colman Domingo and Alan Tudyk. Anthony and Joe Russo direct from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Anthony Russo said the film will be a “bridge” for their return to Marvel now that they’ve been tapped to direct Avengers: End of the World And Avengers: Secret Wars. “This was unintentional a few months ago, but this film is actually a remarkable kind of bridge back to that for us.said Anthony Russo. “It’s an interesting start to returning to Marvel and trying to continue the story.“

The film will debut on Netflix later this year March 2025.
