Fire near Buffalo prompts evacuation orders – Sheridan Media

***UPDATE, Wednesday 2:30 p.m.***

Fire update from Johnson County Emergency Management:

Evacuation orders are in effect for residents between Cook Road and I-90 east of Trabing.

There are currently no evacuation orders in place for the residents of Trabing.

I-90 is closed in both directions as the fire crosses the highway and moves north-northeast.

An emergency shelter is open at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center in Buffalo, 68 N. Burritt Ave.

Pets are welcome at this animal shelter. Livestock can be brought to the Johnson County Fairgrounds or the Buffalo Sale Barn.

Please stay away from active fire areas while emergency responders work to contain the fire.

The wind is expected to ease by 6 p.m. Updates will be posted as they become available.

There is currently no need for supplies in the shelters, but we will let you know if this changes.

According to Johnson County Emergency Management, a fire south of Buffalo near Cook Road/Buffalo Sussex Cutoff Road has resulted in evacuation orders for people living in the area.

Residents are asked to avoid the area unless it is being evacuated.

Traffic jams prevent rescue workers from reaching critical points.

An emergency shelter for evacuees has been set up at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center. Only these people should report there.
