Film/TV actress and comedian who followed the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, was 91

Mitzi McCall, who worked in the entertainment industry for five decades and appeared in 11 films, 14 television shows and numerous animated series, died Thursday at the age of 91. She died at home in Studio City, California. Further information on the cause of death was not immediately available.

Her husband and comedy partner Charlie Brill confirmed her death in a Facebook post. “I lost my Mitzi last night. Rest in peace my only love… Rest in peace and laughter.”

McCall and Charlie Brill performed The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964, better known as the Beatles’ US television debut. Their performance can be seen on the DVD of the Beatles’ appearances on the Sullivan Show. They were interviewed for the 2005 “Big Break” episode of Public Radio International This American life about her Beatles-Sullivan experience, including an encounter with John Lennon in the dressing room.

McCall began her entertainment career on the Children’s lock Program on KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

After moving to Hollywood, she appeared in Rowan & Martin’s laughter and was also a regular in television series such as Life goes on and (with her husband) on Silk stalking.

She lent her voice to Aunt Marina in the animated series snorkelthe voice of Mother Goose in Mother Goose and Grimmthe voice of Sylvia Jenkins in Free for alland a multitude of voices on The Paw Paws.

McCall made guest appearances on the television shows Seinfeld, Twilight Zone, Maude, Dharma & GregAnd feed, as well as voiceover work for many cartoons. In 1971, she was the voice of Penny in the spin-off of The Flintstones The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show.

McCall and Brill had a comedy recording, From our point of viewReleased in 1967 by ABC Records.
